As Ireland’s leading IT disposal provider, AMI has been providing secure IT retirement and electronic recycling and remarketing services since 2001. In that time we have celebrated a number of significant milestones and business achievements, from securing numerous industry accreditations and certifications to successfully running our first GDPR seminar and returning €2 million to our clients through the resale of their old IT equipment. AMI will also mark a number of additional milestones in 2018, including 10 years in business in the Republic of Ireland and 10 years of DiskShred, our on-site IT shredding service provider.
Expanding IT disposal services and launching DiskShred
In 2008, AMI made the bold decision to expand its services to Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, despite a slowdown in the Irish economy. Business is booming once again, and as multinational technology companies continue to locate and invest in the city, demand for AMI’s secure IT disposal services continues to grow.
At the same time that AMI expanded out of Northern Ireland for the first time, we also identified a gap in the market for a provider of secure on-site IT shredding services and launched DiskShred. DiskShred’s purpose-built shredding vehicles shred hard drives and other data-bearing equipment at customers’ premises, saving them time and money. At the end of last year, we launched a new service to help clients recover the value of their old IT equipment and such has been the demand for this service that DiskShred expects to return €250,000 to clients in the next 12 months.
50 employees – another milestone
Of course, we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of the above without the input of our world-class team. And, on that note, another important milestone for AMI in 2018 was hiring our 50th employee, Tina Duffy. Tina has joined us as a member of the RefreshedByUs.com team, where, as a Customer Service Administrator, she is responsible for dealing with customer queries and maintaining an excellent customer experience. AMI is continuing to grow and expand all the time, and for those wondering what working at AMI is like, Tina has agreed to answer some short questions about her role.
Welcome to the team Tina! Can you tell us a little about your role within AMI?
Thanks! Well, I’m a Customer Service Administrator for AMI’s sister brand, RefreshedByUs.com. RBU sells quality refurbished laptops and desktop PCs throughout the UK and Ireland. As well as the customer service aspect of my role, I have taken on a number of additional responsibilities such as helping out with social media and sales, which I’m really enjoying.
Is there such thing as a typical day for you, and if so, what does it look like?
It’s a busy role and while I don’t have a specific daily plan, I prioritise answering all calls coming into the RBU office and helping out customers and in any way I can. I also manage returns and the allocation of repairs. Each day brings new challenges and this is what I enjoy the most!
What skills do you use on a daily basis?
I’m trained in customer service and I would say this is the skill I use the most but I also have a logistics and administration background which enables me to manage my time well and prioritise my workload. So it’s really a mix of skills.
Are there any particularly challenging things about the role?
While my training has been great, my previous knowledge of IT and software was low, so I am very grateful for the patience of the others on the team. I ask new questions every day and their guidance is helping me to learn more about the products we have for sale and the services that we offer.
What do you enjoy most about the job?
I like that each day I am faced with new challenges; this really helps me to grow. As well as this, the atmosphere in AMI/RBU is second to none and everyone within the business has gone above and beyond to be exceptionally friendly and have taken an interest in getting to know me as a person. This is something a lot of companies could learn from, and I feel like I have already made some great friends.
